Movement/ being moved

René invites the viewer to look at his paintings with a creative mindset. Landscapes hide ever-changing creatures and musical notes; the narrative remains fluid and keeps changing as we watch. Every discovery by every viewer is legitimate. René himself also only interprets what he has painted after the canvas is finished, as he continues his journey of discovery.

His work is original, spontaneous, lively. His brushwork is strong, quick, and certain. Every brush stroke is placed correctly in one swoop. He puts down his paintings effortlessly. They are snapshots of a movement: rhythmic and dashing dances on canvas. This is practically literal: while painting in his studio, he listens to music and his brush dances with the music. The paintings grow from his hands, naturally a nd organically, like fruits on a tree. Recurring themes are nature, music, dance, the interaction between people, the connections which are hidden behind what can be perceived. He shapes the invisible in, around, behind, and between the visible, that which can only be sensed, such as connection, love, passion, inspiration, invisible creatures that populate nature, the awareness in trees, rocks, clouds, waves. During walking tours he paints and draws impressions of the landscape, at home in his studio he paints  whatever moves him.

Beweging/ bewogenheid

René nodigt de kijker uit tot creatief waarnemen. Gezichten, dansers, dieren, muzieknoten, landschappen, verhalen, verschijnen en verdwijnen. Hij interpreteert wat hij geschilderd heeft pas nadat het doek voltooid is en blijft op ontdekkingsreis. Iedere ontdekking van iedere kijker is legitiem.

Zijn werk is oorspronkelijk en spontaan, levendig en doorademd. Zijn penseelvoering is krachtig, snel en trefzeker. Iedere penseelstreek staat in één keer op de juiste plaats. Moeiteloos zet hij zijn schilderijen neer. Het zijn momentopnamen in een beweging: ritmische en zwierige dansen op doek. Dat is haast letterlijk: Tijdens het schilderen in zijn atelier draait hij muziek en daarop danst zijn penseel. De schilderijen groeien uit zijn handen, natuurlijk en vanzelf als vruchten aan hun boom. Terugkerende thema’s zijn natuur, muziek, dans, interactie tussen mensen, verbanden die verborgen liggen achter het waarneembare. Hij geeft vorm aan het onzichtbare in, rond, achter en tussen het zichtbare, aan datgene wat alleen voelbaar is, zoals verbondenheid, liefde, passie inspiratie, onzichtbare schepsels die de natuur bevolken, het bewustzijn in bomen, rotsen, wolken, golven. Tijdens voetreizen schildert en tekent hij landschapsimpressies, thuis op zijn atelier al wat hem beweegt.
